 Campus

Hamilton's newest Campus feature is the SPARK Park, a cooperative venture of the Hamilton PTA, parents, students and HISD. Volunteer Architects Kathleen Jircik, and Mark Santa Maria of Kirksey designed the park.  Plans for the front of the school included a new wall to direct walking traffic, new concrete benches, 2 curved walkways built with crushed granite, and a new fence for the teachers’ parking lot.

Plans for the back of the campus included a new entrance with new columns decorated with hand painted tiles designed by parent and artist Susan Schawe. An arched canopy is also a new feature of the park, providing shade and cover for students walking to and from the school. One dozen concrete benches were constructed under the canopy, next to the Volleyball Court. The two new beach volleyball courts were installed by Keep Houston Beautiful and volunteers. Trees were planted by Trees for Houston (24), The Tree Kids (25), and Kirksey architects (50). JP Morgan Chase also participated in a tree-planting and donated several trees with Keep Houston Beautiful.

The school raised over $18,000 for their SPARK Park by hosting an art auction, a Cherrydale Farm candy sale, selling bricks, a contribution from Principal Roger Bunnell’s budget of $9,000, and a contribution from Joe Nuber, the NW Superintendent’s budget, of $10,000. Additional funding for the park includes, $80,000 in Community Development Block Grant Funds, $5,000 from Allstate Insurance, $5,000 from Duke Energy, and $2,500 from the Susan Vaughan Foundation.
